During the NS time, the satellite KZ camp was also called “Urbis” or “Wesserling” – after the railroad station that was located a few km away.
The memorial site, which was expanded in 2016, is located freely accessible a short ways outside of the village of Urbès.
The former camp terrain with the labour camp Urbis/Wesserling for construction prisoners and its fenced-off camp area “Colmar” for Jewish prisoners is also located there. However, they were never deployed.
In front of the tunnel portal 10 additional information boards tell the history of the camp and of the people who had to work so hard.
The tunnel itself cannot be accessed, but the mighty construction in front of the bunker contains impressive works of art produced by students for remembrance and as a warning.
Upon request, the supporting AFMD 68 association offers guided tours and projects for school classes in various formats.
