Business Details

At four locations, spread out over the town of Balingen pairs of concrete steles have been positioned since 2014/15. One stele of each pair shows the stylised figure of a prisoner, the other stele displays information tables. All locations are freely accessible.

Below, the locations of the four twin columns are listed:

  1. In Balingen-Frommern at the Schiefersee, in a park. The prisoners of the small Frommern camp were deployed to build the nearby oil slate factory, which was operated until 1949.
  2. In Balingen-Erzingen in the Erlenstraße. In the Erzinger Works “Wüste 4” and “Wüste 5” together with KZ prisoners of the suffering category “Nacht und Nebel” [literally: Night and Fog; Cloak-and-dagger elimination decree] other forced labourers from the Soviet Union slaved along.
  3. In Balingen-Erzingen, at the Geischberg, at the slate kiln, which is still preserved.
  4. In Balingen-Engstlatt, Im Ried.

KZ prisoners from the Bisingen camp worked in Works “Wüste 3” in Engstlatt. There were many deaths.

Work Group Wüste offers guided group tours, organises presentations and excursions. Pedagogic materials are in process
