Business Details

The permanent exhibition, which was started in 1990, is located in the basement rooms of the current Gustav-Wiederkehr Elementary School (then Friedrichschule) in Mannheim-Sandhofen. The school performs normal school operations. At the front side of the school a plaque and four stumbling stones, set for Wladyslaw Kostrzenski, Marian Krainski, Mieczyslaw Slowik and Tadeusz Wisniewski, remind of the victims of the unjust NS regime.

The exhibition may be visited by school classes and groups upon prior registration. For individual visitors, the memorial site is open between 2:00 and 5:00 PM every third Sunday of each month without prior registration. Entry is free.

The exhibition is structured to cover nine topics. A graphic element is assigned to each topic. Together, these elements make up the logo of the memorial site:

  • One thousand years
  • Forced labour in the NS state
  • The way to the KZ
  • A school as external KZ command post
  • Suffering, surviving and dying
  • The KZ System
  • In the Daimler-Benz factory
  • ... to the end
  • Suppressing, forgetting, remembering

The memorial site documents the history of the satellite KZ camp as a part of the Nazi KZ system, it informs about the Warsaw uprising and remembers the victims of the KZ Sandhofen. It offers guided tours, excursions, events concerning the listed topics as well as project days within the network for democracy and courage.
